Eudia
I didn't immediately know where my passion lay. Further study, yes but what? Get some work experience first, and preferably in the financial sector, I decided. After that, I'll see.
My first full-time job was at a family-owned office, and as a “jack-of-all-trades,” I went to work there on a variety of tasks. Tasks that fitted very well with my curiosity: registering and interviewing job seekers, drafting employment contracts, personnel planning, timekeeping, invoicing and supporting the 2 directors and the external accountant.
At PWC in the “International Tax” department, the consulting world opened up to me. However, my opportunities were with Loyens & Loeff. That’s where I laid the foundation of my career, as a payroll clerk.
Through international companies that followed, I was exposed to much more complex challenges of both Dutch and international payroll that organizations can face.
Effectively managing these challenges as a payroll professional (RPP) requires a thorough knowledge of local and international laws and regulations, collaboration between different departments within an organization, the use of sophisticated payroll systems and outside expertise.
Following new developments and applying the changes correctly is a must and remains the greatest challenge for me. For complex issues and advice, I like to spar with my sister Audrey first.
Audrey
I too did not immediately know what I wanted to be, "later when I grow up". Studying business economics seemed like the right thing to do, because it was already established that I wanted to own my own business someday. That subsequently did not go entirely according to plan.
In my second year of college, I made the switch to tax economics. Purely because it fascinated me that everyone around me was afraid of the tax authorities. I should do something with that, I thought! During my studies I was introduced to payroll and income tax, but also to labor and social security law. That’s when my passion was born and I decided to specialize in payroll taxes.After several years of pioneering at a small tax consultancy in Amsterdam, I made the switch to Deloitte Global Employer Services.
At this Big-4 firm, I was able to expand my knowledge into cross-border labor and global mobility. A very good learning experience! But advice is just advice, it sounded in my head. What do employers actually do with that? To find out and have some influence on that, I accepted an in-house position as a payroll tax specialist at multinational SABIC. There I had the opportunity not only to advise, but also to implement and monitor.
I found the necessary collaboration between HR, Payroll and Finance fascinating. Steering that and helping employers to be “in control” is what I wanted to do. That moved me to take the plunge and start our business together with Eudia in 2022.
That I wanted to do that with my sister, I had no doubt. We not only go through fire for each other, but have the same enthusiasm for our customers.
